This month, second class have been practicing ‘clarifying’ when reading. This reading comprehension strategy asks them to identify areas of confusion or misunderstanding when reading. Then they take action by backtracking, reading ahead, using illustrations or prior knowledge to find the answer to their questions. They loved reading ‘The Lorax’ by Dr. Seuss, which was filled with ununusal and funny words and ideas. In pairs, they completed a grid to practice using the strategy.
